Graphicast LTA Casting Process Described in Detail on New Video

We’ve just posted a new video to the Graphicast You Tube channel. You can now see the Graphicast LTA casting process unfold in slow motion, with each step explained in a thrilling narration. Just like in the Olympics, breaking the action down into slow motion with analysis along the way helps you better understand what’s happening during the process and, hopefully, gives you a better appreciation of the finer points of the process.

The Economic Indicators – An Informal New Hampshire View

During my interview on New Hampshire Public Radio on Friday, we talked about the indicators Graphicast is seeing that may suggest a recovery is underway. The biggest thing for us is that our order book in January was the highest it’s been since October 2008, when the bottom started dropping out of the economy. Our February orders exceeded January’s, so that’s two strong months in a row. March will be critical in the trend analysis. Were January and February just inventory catch ups months, or are we seeing sustained growth? We’ll let you know in a few weeks. Here are some of the other recovery indicators people are seeing in their personal and business lives.

Graphicast on NH Public Radio on Friday, February 26 at Noon

I will be interviewed by Jon Greenberg of NH Public Radio between noon and 1 PM on Friday, February 26 during his live, call-in program, “Working It Out”. Working It Out (WIO) is about the economy and its impact on the state. Notes are collected from NH residents and posted on WIO’s website to provide a panoramic view of the economy from the various regions of the state. Monthly, Jon does a live, call-in program to supplement the web postings. The response to the program has been enthusiastic, as people have been eager to tell their stories and share their experiences. On Friday, Jon will be exploring the recovery. He’ll be trying to find out what people are seeing around the state , is the recovery for real, are people confident or wary? It should be an interesting program. For those out of the immediate New Hampshire area, NHPR does have a streaming audio feed for its broadcasts.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Graphicast, But Were Afraid to Ask

With no apologies to Woody Allen for the title, we do get a lot of questions about how our process works. And not just our casting process, but the whole process, from beginning to end. How do we design and make the molds, how do we program the CNC machines, how does the CMM work, etc. We’ve tried to answer these questions with a virtual Graphicast plant tour, highlighting the process we follow in developing a new part for you. All of this is in a 4 1/2 minute video on the Graphicast channel on You Tube. You can see all your favorite Graphicast characters (and they are characters), including a cameo role by your blogger as a CNC machinist. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the video should be worth millions. I hope you find it helpful to your understanding of Graphicast, and how we work with you to make your parts.

I Got The RUB From Social Networking

Since teaming up with Aleuromedia , Graphicast has been working on our social media platform. This stuff can be time consuming, so I was a bit skeptical at first.

Since getting involved in the project, I’ve come to realize that with social media, it’s not success with the individual parts, but it’s all the parts working together that make it worthwhile. The whole thing works because of connectivity; no one source, site or event is the total answer.

Graphicast was establishing our Sales Representatives on LinkedIn. One of them, a contact of mine, had updated her profile. I looked at the update and noticed she was connected to someone at the 2D Ranch Jerky company. Through LinkedIn, I ended up on their website. 2D Ranch Jerky makes custom jerky, seasonings, rubs, salts and marinades. With food being a popular topic in the office, I pointed this out to a co-worker. After about five minuets of looking at their product, we had talked ourselves into buying some rubs. What’s this, a sale through social media….?

Unconscious Competence

Last night, I attended the Boston Symphony Orchestra open rehearsal. The renowned cellist, Yo Yo Ma, was the soloist. Watching and listening to him, I couldn’t help but notice his ever present smile, his attentiveness to the orchestra and the conductor, his engagement with the music, his absolute joy in playing the music of Haydn. He wasn’t looking at his fingers, or overtly thinking about how to play the cello. He was displaying unconscious competence. He wasn’t focused on the mechanics of playing. He was focused on communication with the audience and orchestra and interpretation of the composer’s intent.

I’d like to think that when you work with Graphicast, we are also displaying unconscious competence. We’re not focused on learning how to design and manufacture a part. We do it so well, we can move beyond that in our awareness. We’re focused on communicating with you and trying to interpret your design intent into a casting that is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and execution. If we do our best for you and you tell us we are the Yo Yo Ma of casting, we’ll know what you mean.
